Background

Eisenkot resigned from Gantz's National Unity on June 30, 2025, partly over a dispute about a leadership primary, and resigned his Knesset seat (Jerusalem Post, https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/politics-and-diplomacy/art...). He founded Yashar on September 16, 2025 with Matan Kahana among the founders (Ynet, https://www.ynetnews.com/article/ryhasrloxg). In January 2026 he was reported to have proposed a three-way merger with Bennett and Lapid, which did not materialise; after their April 2026 merger he said they had weakened the bloc by rejecting his 'super-party' proposal (Times of Israel, https://www.timesofisrael.com/eisenkot-accuses-bennett-and-l...). He launched the campaign on June 30, 2026 in Hod Hasharon under the slogan 'Israel must win', presenting plans on security, economy, education, service, post-trauma care and immigration (Times of Israel, 2026-06-30). By late August polls placed Yashar level with or ahead of Likud (Jerusalem Post, 2026-08-30).
