Background
Ofer Winter served 34 years in the IDF, commanding the Givati Brigade in the 2014 Gaza war, serving as military secretary to the defense minister and commanding the 98th Division, and left in 2024 after being passed over for major general (JPost https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-833171, 2024-12-12; Wikipedia, wiki-only for full career list). A Kan poll in July 2026 showed him as the preferred leader of a new right-wing party (Wikipedia, wiki-only). Yoseph Haddad, who had registered a separate party, agreed to join him in August (JPost https://www.jpost.com/israel-election-2026/article-906571). Winter launched Amcha Yisrael on 2026-08-25 in Jerusalem with Haddad at number 2 and a slate the party describes as majority secular (Ice https://www.ice.co.il/local-news/news/article/1127155). Within a week he rejected merger offers from the Smotrich-Feiglin bloc and Likud (INN 2026-09-02).
